James Edward Cobb III, 72, James Edward Cobb, III, of Ashland, died December 1, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Alice Brown Cobb; their sons, Jamie (Lindsay) and Phillip (Erin); grandchildren, Ashton, Brown, Aliya, Jemma and Caroline; sister, Janet Cobb; sister-in-law, Sally Temple (Johnny) and nephews, Andy (Aimee) and J.P. He graduated from VCU and began his career in the county that he loved. Some of his significant contributions to Hanover County Public Schools were teaching PE/Health, Driver Education, and coaching football at PHHS for 43 years. In retirement, Jim enjoyed maintaining his homeplace, vacationing with his family in Nags Head, initiating a group hug every chance he got and singing his favorite lyric, "You and me together, forever." To his family, Jim was a loving and giving husband, father, grandfather, best friend and hero. He was gentle and kind, knew no strangers and was a friend to all who knew him. Jim, known for his contagious laugh, will be greatly missed by all. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 8th at St. James the Less Episcopal Church, 125 Beverly Road, Ashland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or St. James the Less.
