

James Guy Gwin McGee (“Guy”), a long-time Ashland resident passed away peacefully at home on Jan 4, 2026. Born on October 9, 1935, near Tuscaloosa, AL. He was a devoted father, husband, and community member.
Guy graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in 1954 and from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1959, was commissioned as an Army officer and proudly served in the reserves for a number of years. After graduating from VPI (as it was known then) he had a long and successful career as a Civil Engineer with the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation. In retirement, Guy enjoyed many rounds of golf and games of cards with good friends. He was a fan of NASCAR, the Washington Redskins and especially the Virginia Tech Hokies. He watched many exciting games from the South Endzone at Lane Stadium.
He married Sue Fletcher in 1959, with whom he raised two children. Sue and Guy enjoyed 53 wonderful years before her death in 2012. In 2018 he again found love, marrying Patricia Ross with whom he shared a deep and joyful relationship for seven loving years.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Patricia, and his children, Guy (Barbara) of Williamsburg and Susan Stauffer (Mark) of Woodbridge. He was a proud “Grandpop” of Bob McGee (Jessica), Virginia McGee Jones (Matthew), Michael McGee, Brian Stauffer (Laura), Rob Stauffer (fiancée Christine) and Katherine Stauffer Wilburn (Grant) and great-grandfather of six, He also is survived by stepchildren Jarrett (Robin) Ross, Julie Ross (Chris) and Jason Ross (Laura), and many adored step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, as well as his college roommate, close friend and brother-in-law Bob Duff.
The family is extremely grateful to caregivers Nora Cannon, Kelsey Queen, Rebecca Hahn, Margaret Watts, Sarah Kerr Watts, Karen Lomenzo, Makayla Dean, Summer Anthony, Nicole Rich. Our family appreciated your loving care. We couldn’t have done it without each of you.
Guy was a longtime member of Winn's Baptist Church and served for many years as Deacon and Minister of Music. His memory will be cherished for his devotion to his family, church, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Jan 9 at 12:00 followed by funeral services at 1:00 at Winn's Baptist Church, 12320 Winn's Church Road, Glen Allen. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association in his honor.
