

James Randolph Rice, Sr., 73, of Ashland, went to rest in the arms of Jesus on September 25, 2016 after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer. He was the son of the late James Blair and Doris Covington Rice and was preceded in death by his brother, Eddie. Mr. Rice retired from Mobil Chemical as an accountant after 26 years of service. Most currently he worked with Gotcha’ Covered Window Fashions. Randolph was a deacon and member at Winn’s Baptist Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an avid bowler and a member of the APA. As an extravagant train enthusiast, he was a member of the Virginia Train Collectors. Randolph is survived by his “first wife” of 50 years, Carolyn Rogers Rice; children, Shannon (Bryan), Jenny (Dax), Jim (Colleen); grandchildren, Brendan, Emmy, and Ravyn; sisters, Barbara Carter and Jackie Clark; brother, Russell Rice (Becky); sister-in-law, Janice Rice; beloved mother-in-law, Virginia Rogers; two special sisters-in-law, Karen Winston and Nancy Lutton; brothers-in-law, Daniel Rogers (Ruth) and Alan Rogers (Janice), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Winn’s Baptist Church, 12320 Winn’s Church Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23059.
