John Allen Dixon

Dixon, John A., 64, of Beaverdam, Virginia went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, after courageously battling pancreatic cancer for three years. He was born in Christiansburg, Virginia on May 2, 1958, to Everett Allen Dixon, Jr., and Shelby Shortt Long, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jan; daughters, Kristina D. Southall (fiance Matt); Kimberly Dixon; and Katherine D. Goodman (Sonny); son, Phillip D. Novosel (Amber); brother, James Dixon (Cheryl); sisters, TC Nuckols (Lewis); and Tambra Dixon; fifteen grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. John graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1976, and was a phenomenal auto mechanic by trade in and around the Ashland/Glen Allen area, most recently working with his brother at Dixon's Auto. He was a lifelong member of Calvary Christian Church in Glen Allen, and he was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, the New York Yankees, and the Alabama Crimson Tide. John never met a stranger, and was loved and admired by many for his tenacity, integrity, kindness, and selflessness; and was known for his love and devotion to his family, as well as his signature huge smile and laugh! The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005. A celebration of life and burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Calvary Christian Church, 14196 Ashland Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23059. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in John's honor to: Wounded Warrior Project, Mountain Mission School (www.mmskids.org), or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
