John Edward Doherty Jr., age 67, of Ruther Glen, Virginia went home peacefully to be with The Lord on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. John was born June 16, 1954 to the late Dr. John and Mary Doherty, of Massachusetts.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 40 years, Diane Doherty; children, John Doherty III (Valentina), Erik Doherty (Claire), and Shane Doherty; and grandchildren, Raynor, Herbert, and Slone. He was the oldest of 12 children; and has many other family and friends, all who will miss him dearly.
A graduate from Boston College, he moved to Virginia Beach with his wife, Diane and young sons. He had a successful career in the automotive industry, winning numerous awards for his customer service. He especially enjoyed sports, outdoor activities, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005 with interment to follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 21360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Hanover, VA 23069.
