Manuel was born September 3rd, 1936 to the Rev. Walter Wampler and Bessie Penley Wampler. He graduated from Council High School.
Manuel and his wife and son, Ruth Ann and Mike, moved to Ashland, Virginia in 1960. Manuel worked for over 50 years at the Virginia Department of Transportation where he made many lifelong friends some of who remain dear friends.
Manuel was very active in his community, he could be found at county farmer's markets, the local Hardee's, and at the Cool Springs Ruritan Club, where he was very involved in the Clay Springs Ruritan Club for over 50 years. He loved to travel with his wife and son. The family cherishes the many memories of the amazing places he visited with friends and family during his life. Manuel was very fond of antique cars, bluegrass music, and growing amazing fruits and vegetables. He and his wife, Ann worked so hard canning, to make sure they had enough to get them through the winter.
His family will remember him as the one who knew all the history of the family and could tell you everyone's birthday. He still held his birthplace as home and towards the end had asked several people to take him home.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Ruth Ann, and his loving and devoted son, Michael Scott; brothers, Gillis Wampler and Ronald Wampler; sisters, Jerlene Lewis, Karen Wnukoski, Inez Booth, and Cheryl Campisi; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carlis Wampler, and sister, Monnie Duty.
The family would also like the thank the caregivers that were so wonderful in the care of Manuel during his final months.
The family will receive friends from 4 P.M. to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005.
