He was preceded in death by his parents William E. Hanes and Kitty Hanes of Ashland.
He is survived by his sister, Gail H. Stanley (Bobby); nieces, Dawn Martin and Amy Lane(Kevin); and 6 great and great-great nieces and nephews, all of Ashland.
Bill served in the Marine Corps for 6 years.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Forest Grove United Methodist Church, 13384 Ashcake Road, Ashland, Va. 23005 where a memorial service will follow at 11 am. There will not be a graveside service.
