Aileen was born to Adoline (Lena) and Con Rieder on February 27, 1932 on the family farm in the Mankota district being the seventh of eight children. Between the ages of 18-20 Aileen spent over two years at the sanatoriums in Fort Qu’Appelle and Saskatoon recovering from tuberculosis. She kept in touch with many of her roommates her entire life.
Aileen married George Bond on October 21, 1953. They made a life together on the farm raising their three children, Linda, Doug and Laura. They also raised sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens and a couple milk cows. They later went to only grain farming, Aileen worked many long hours alongside George, hauling grain while also cooking the meals, looking after three small children and keeping up with her many other housewife duties.
Aileen was a longtime member of the Melaval and Lafleche United Church UCW and sang in the church choir for many years. She also delivered meals on wheels until she was in her 80’s. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her compassionate and giving nature. The house was always open and the coffee pot was always on; no one was a stranger for long. Mealtimes always had room for unexpected company. She especially enjoyed Sunday get togethers with her brothers, sisters and families as well as getting together with the farm neighbours.
Aileen (Nanny) enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, flower gardens, jigsaw puzzles, watching curling and playing cards- especially teaching all of her children and grandchildren Canasta. They spent many happy times doing these activities together and she instilled many of her interests onto to them
She was predeceased by husband George in 1995, all her brothers and sisters: George (Lizzie), Elizabeth (George Emms), Gust (Lizzie), Luella (Aubrey Chisholm), Martin (Hilda), Loreen (Wes Chambers), Allan (Kathy), and close family friend Kathleen Whitten. Aileen will be forever cherished by her family; daughter Linda (Jerry) Straza, Doug, Laura Kidd (Laury Wolensky); three grandchildren Carol Williamson, Michael Straza, Crystal Straza; great-grandchildren Dyllan, Preston, Hunter, several nieces and nephews.
