

Simon Bruce Stalker passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the age of 86 years. He was the second youngest child of Simon and Elizabeth Stalker, born January 8, 1930 in the Leeville District. Bruce attended public school at Leeville School and high school in Assiniboia. For a number of years he worked for the Department of Agriculture with the Conservation and Development Branch on clearing and breaking land and drainage projects in various parts of Saskatchewan. He later returned to Assiniboia to take up farming, purchasing land southwest of town in the RM of Stonehenge. Bruce continued to live on the family homestead northeast of Assiniboia until moving to his house in Assiniboia. He lived independently in his house until the time of his passing. Bruce was an active member of the Elks Club for many years. He was a long-time member of the Wheat Pool. He really enjoyed being a helping hand to his land renters, Greg and Calvin, moving machinery and trucks when needed and offering rides. Bruce enjoyed actively curling for many years and still watched curling on TV whenever possible. He loved attending family gatherings no matter how big or small. Predeceased by his parents Simon and Elizabeth Stalker; brothers, Jack, Donald (Reta); sisters: Minnie (Bill) Peterson, Winnifred (George) Reitan, Beatrice (Tory) Tronrud, Bruce leaves to mourn nieces and nephews: Murray (Janet) Stalker, Maureen (Gord) Williamson, Elaine (Wayne) Wilson, Gerry (Brenda) Peterson, Ken (Kelly) Peterson, Allan (Carol) Peterson, Tory Tronrud, Heather (Douglas) Moynihan, Gary (Catherine) Tronrud and their families. Funeral Service was held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 11:00 am at Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK. Neil Gilbert officiated. Pallbearers were Murray Stalker, Allan Peterson, Ken Peterson, Gord Williamson, Calvin Fender and Greg Pituley. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery. Donations in memory of Bruce may be made to the Lung Association or South Country Health Care Foundation for the Assiniboia Union Hospital.
