We are saddened to announce that, after a lengthy battle with cancer, Calvin Ruthven, aged 64, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side.
Born on April 25, 1957 in Moose Jaw, SK, Calvin completed his schooling in Moose Jaw but spent all his summers and almost all his time out of school at the farm east of Lisieux, SK. He took over his father’s farm in 1979. He married the love of his life, Marianne Alice Bouvier, on February 18, 1992 and they raised two beautiful children, Rachel and Clay. While Calvin loved his life on the farm he also treasured very memorable family trips to such places as Florida, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, Black Hills, Devil's Tower, Mexico, Nova Scotia, Niagara Falls, Banff, and even a Rhine River cruise. Some of those were done multiple times or on motorcycle. He truly enjoyed his motorbike road trips. He also took great pleasure in hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He had the biggest heart and often shared his wisdom with others. He also spent much time discussing and “solving” the problems of the world with his friends Gary Miller and Martin Borgerson. His sometimes twisted sense of humour kept everyone greatly entertained. Calvin semi-retired from farming in 2014 and recently fully retired.
He was predeceased by his parents, RJ and Marion (née Berg) Ruthven, his uncle Arnie and aunt Lois Berg, father-in-law Leopold Bouvier, sister-in-law Pauline Bouvier, and brother-in-law Dave Williamson. He is survived by Marianne, his loving wife of 30 years, and children Rachel (Gordon Lee) and Clay (Krista Grasdal), his brother Randy (Shelley), sister Valerie, mother-in-law Claire Bouvier, sisters and brothers-in-law Adeline (Mike) Rozak, Bernadette (Marlow) Henrikson, Raymond Bouvier, Michel (Marianne) Bouvier, Jacqueline (Brett) Foster, Rose-Marie Bouvier (Dale Muhr), Edna Williamson, and 3 nieces and 12 nephews.
The family wishes to thank Homecare and Palliative Care for the fantastic support and compassion the various staff provided and to Ross Funeral Service, in particular Gary Miller, for their guidance.
A Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be held at a later date. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.rossfuneralservice.com for the Ruthven family. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK
