She passed peacefully, pain free, and surrounded by loved ones.
Charlotte was born and raised in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, to Ruth and Dave Wiks. She was the only daughter among their three children: Kevin (Michelle), Wes, and Charlotte. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend.
Charlotte leaves behind her children: Aaron (Lisa) and their children; Anthony (Elysia) and their children; Rodney and his daughter; and Tanisha (Bryson).
Charlotte raised her children in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, but made many trips back and forth to Assiniboia with them to visit Grandma Ruth and Grandpa Dave. She truly understood the importance of family and spent as much time with hers as she could. She was predeceased by her beloved nephew, Travis Wiks, at the age of 5.
Charlotte was known as a selfless, unbelievably kind, and loving woman. She was the one who wanted to settle disputes — the peacekeeper.
She wore many hats in life, from a waitress at The New Moon Café in Assiniboia, (when $3.70 in tips was a good day) to a Candy Striper. But her most important role, her pride and joy, was her family, especially her children. She kept every little thing imaginable: baby books, photographs, newspaper clippings, and even drawings on scrap paper. To say she was proud of Aaron, Anthony, Rodney, and Tanisha would be an understatement. Her children were deeply and endlessly loved by her.
Next in importance to Charlotte was being a grandma. She was a devoted grandmother to her many grandchildren. She never once turned down an opportunity to babysit, take them somewhere special, or simply spend time with them. She never took a single moment with her grandchildren for granted. She was the proudest grandmother there could be.
Prior to being diagnosed with cancer in 2024, Charlotte worked cleaning business offices in the evenings. During the day, every weekday, she cared for “her boys.” Grandma Charlotte babysat Anthony and Elysia’s two sons for nearly seven years, building an unbelievably strong bond with Gavin in particular. Gavin was the only grandchild born with Charlotte’s fiery red hair — something they shared as a special connection.
Charlotte enjoyed many things in life. Over the past few years, she developed a love for creating “Diamond Art” projects and was incredibly talented at it. She also loved gardening. Flowers were her thing. No matter how hot it was outside, you could find Charlotte in the yard, digging in the dirt and making things beautiful.
She had many friends all over Canada. She loved taking pictures and videos of everything, and while sometimes it felt like too much, we now cannot imagine not having the photos and videos of our time with her.
In the end, Charlotte fought an incredibly difficult battle right until her last breath. Her red hair matched her spirit. She closed her eyes and left this earth to reunite with her beloved father and her nephew, Travis.
Her absence leaves an unbearable ache, but we take comfort in knowing she is finally at peace and free from pain.
Charlotte is predeceased by her father Dave Wiks, nephew Travis, aunts and uncles Albert Wiks, Gordon Wiks, Evan Wiks, Cecil Wiks, Bertha Seevers, Ron Wood, Bev (Frank) Pickens and Merv Barnes. She is survived by her children Aaron (Lisa) – Chloe and Jackson; Anthony (Elysia) – Madison, Gavin and Theo; Rodney – Bella; Tanisha (Bryson), her mother Ruth Wiks, her brothers Kevin (Michelle) – Shanaya and Harley-Ann; and Wesley – Melissa, Shyla and Cassidy; uncles Cecil (Kathy) Myhers and Calvin (Lois) Myhers, aunt Elda Barnes and numerous cousins.
A gathering for family and friends will take place at a later date, with details to be announced.
We thank everyone for their kind words and for the care provided by the staff at Assiniboia Union Hospital during Mom’s final days.
