
On September 11, 2016, Douglas passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, Sk. Douglas Charles was born January 14, 1920 in the town of St. Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands. The family immigrated to Canada in May 1928. They settled with the Coal Creek Colony, southwest of Rockglen, Sk. Doug served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in WWII (L609672). He married Esther Gardiner in 1952. He was ordained Priest in the Anglican Church in 1958 and served as Rural Dean in the Deanery of Pelly, Archdeacon in the Archdeaconry of Swift Current, and as a Canon of the Cathedral. Doug ‘retired’ to the town of Assiniboia. Doug loved old-time music and was a dancer well into his 90’s. He played the fiddle and accordion by ear. He always talked about his family and took a keen interest in what his children and grandchildren were doing. Doug was always travelling at every opportunity, going throughout Canada and the USA, Europe, Bali, Malaysia, and cruising to the Panama Canal. He also enjoyed worshipping, gardening, and talking with everyone he met. In 2015 due to health reasons, he moved to Melville, Sk.
Doug is survived by three children: Douglas (Terry) Brewer of Melville, John Brewer of Regina and Katherine (Ed) Draude of Naicam; grandchildren: Jennifer (Dennis) Brewer-Duda, Ainsley (Shawn) Brewer, Christopher Draude, great-grandchildren: Ethan, Shaylee, Tasia, Dawsyn; two sisters Dorothy Scarrow and Margaret (Arvo) Laspa, as well numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by brothers William and John (Lorna) and sister Gertie (Joe) Pilsner and brother-in-law Howard Scarrow.
Prayer Service according to the Anglican Church of Canada was held Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 7:00 PM. The Reverend David Nevett officiated. Funeral Service according to the Anglican Church of Canada was held Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM in St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, Sk. Officiating - The Right Reverend Robert Hardwick officiated, The Deacon Reverend Arleen Champion assisted, The Reverend Glenn Galenkamp read scripture and The Reverend David Nevett gave the Homily. The organist was Marjorie Hamilton. Honorary Pallbearers were: Raymond Mynett and Christopher Draude. Pallbearers were: Dennis Duda, Shawn Serelo, Richard Pilsner, Allan Scarrow, Lloyd Hogg, and Don Watson. Following lunch and fellowship, the Interment took place at the Quantock Cemetery, Rockglen, Sk. Donations in Memory of Reverend Brewer may be made to St. Boniface and St. Lawrence Anglican Church.
