Drew Alexander LaMontagne

May 18, 1983 – July 18, 2026

Drew Alexander LaMontagne of Fife Lake, Saskatchewan passed away on July 18, 2026, at the age of 43. Drew was born on May 18, 1983, in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, and grew up on the family farm near Lisieux. He attended school in Rockglen, with portions of grades 11 and 12 spent in Yorkton and Assiniboia, before graduating in Rockglen. After high school, Drew worked in the oilfields out of Medicine Hat, Alberta, before moving to Moose Jaw and Assiniboia, where he drove truck for several years, hauling hay and cattle. He eventually returned to his roots in farming and ranching, beginning on the family farm and expanding from there. In 2022, he and his family moved to Emerald Park, Saskatchewan, and in 2024 to Kelowna, British Columbia, while continuing to return to the farm for seeding and harvest. He settled in Saskatoon in 2026.

An outdoorsman through and through, Drew was an avid hunter and fisherman. He learned his love of the hunt from his father and proudly passed it on to his own family. A crack shot and natural athlete—big, strong, agile, and gifted with exceptional hand-eye coordination—he excelled in hockey as a young man, advancing as far as the Western Hockey League with the Spokane Chiefs. He was an imposing presence on the ice and loved to play. In later years, his greatest pride in the rink came from watching his son compete.

Above all, Drew’s calling was fatherhood. He prioritized his family and found deep joy in the everyday moments of raising his children. He loved movies and music, sharing playlists with his girls and watching his favourite films over and over (often falling asleep within the first twenty minutes). Beneath his rugged exterior was a soft and gentle spirit. Drew was a storyteller who loved to laugh. Gracious, kind, and welcoming, he had a way of lighting up a room and making everyone around him feel at ease.

Drew is survived by his wife, Taralyn LaMontagne (née Mattson); his children, Parys, Bronson, and Harlow; his parents, Leonard and Dana LaMontagne (née Vaessen); father-in-law Miles Mattson; mother-in-law Gail Mattson (née Ellert); his siblings, Jordon LaMontagne (Stephanie), Megan Koskie (Michael), and Leslie LaMontagne; his brother-in-law Torrey Mattson and his grandmother, Ann Vaessen. He was predeceased by his grandparents Lawrence LaMontagne, Norma LaMontagne (née Fisher), and Gordon Vaessen. Beloved by his immediate family and aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, Drew will always be remembered for his big heart and warm spirit.

Funeral Service for Drew will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 11:00 am in St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, SK. Interment in St. Therese Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations in Memory of Drew may be made to the Rockglen Fire Department and Willow Bunch Fire Department.
