Edward Colin Williams

Edward (Ed) Williams passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026 at his home at Westside Court in Assiniboia, SK at the age of 82 years.

Ed was born in Stratford-on-Avon, England on January 6, 1944 to Ben and Betty Williams, the eldest of six children. At the age of 18 months Edward set sail across the Atlantic Ocean for Canada with his mother, a War-Bride, on the long journey to Canada to join his Dad who had returned home due to medical reasons from the war in 1945. Upon arriving to the Crane Valley/Cardross area in Saskatchewan, Edward began his life as a farm boy.

At the age of six, Ed attended Crane Valley Rural School until 1954, at which time he entered the Crane Valley School until eighth grade. Upon completing eighth grade, Ed began working for local farmers, being gone for a week at a time. When not working for others, Ed helped out on the family farm eventually going farther afield to work at the Sodium Salt mines at Bishopric, Chaplin and Fox Valley. An accident which crushed his hand ended his mining career.

Once Ed was able to return home from months of rehabilitation, he worked on the farm with his Dad and also purchased some land of his own. Ed continued farming while also driving school bus for a number of years.

Ed was a proud member of the Oro Lake Kinsmen club, maintained the Crane Valley Cemetery, and helped out in the community with whatever came his way. He enjoyed many games including curling, cards – especially cribbage, horseshoes and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Westside Court in Assiniboia became Ed’s new home in 2015. Here he thoroughly enjoyed the companionship and daily activities with his fellow tenants and made many new friends. He looked forward to daily visits from the staff and his Home Care team.

Predeceased by his parents, Ben and Betty Williams, brother Vernon, niece Candace Williams, brother-in-law Bill Shaw and many aunts, uncles, and cousins; Ed is survived by siblings Ivy (Harvey) Shaw, Leslie (Lynda), Florence (Dave) Milne, and Kathy (Cecil) Myhre. He also leaves to mourn his aunts Marion Williams and Judy England as well as many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews, and many special cousins and friends all of who he thought the world of.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stars Air Ambulance.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 29 at 1:00 pm at Ross Funeral Chapel in Assiniboia followed by a luncheon and visiting at the Assiniboia 55 Club. Interment to follow at the Crane Valley Cemetery.

Ed’s family would like to thank the Assiniboia Home Care team for their care and kindness over the past 11 years as well as the many tenants and staff of Westside Court who made his time there so enjoyable for him.
