Emma was born April 2, 1932, to Joseph and Theresa Schafer at Billimun, SK, just west of Mankota, the second youngest child of eight. Emma grew up on a farm with her four brothers and three sisters where she learned to cook, bake, crochet, embroider and numerous other tasks. Emma married her best friend and loving husband Leo on November 17, 1952, and lived on the Folk homestead where they farmed and raised their family of seven children. She enjoyed music, dancing, singing, gardening, baking, embroidering, crocheting, playing cards, board games, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends which she treasured more than anything. Quiet by nature, Emma worked hard on the farm and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors. Emma was a member of the CWL for many years and had a very strong faith in God and the Catholic Church.
Due to ill health, Leo and Emma retired from the farm and moved into Mankota in 1986 where she kept busy keeping up the house and planted a large garden in their backyard. Emma will always be remembered for her love of nature, music and the simple things in life, but most of all she will be remembered as a very kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
A prayer service was held Thursday evening, February 23, 2012, at W.J. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel in Moose Jaw, SK. Seminarian James Zick presided.
