Predeceased by parents Clifford and Fanivy Knudsen, brother Emmett (Lucille) McMillan and sisters Betty (Chris) Zentner and Faye (Nick) Iannone.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Shirley Knudsen (Gibson) and children Shannon (Perry) Claypool, Michael and Mark. Gene cherished his grandchildren Kelsey and Dawson along with numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews who are all like grandchildren to Gene.
Born in Bengough, Saskatchewan, on October 23,1931, Gene was raised on farm/ranch in the Big Muddy area where he worked along side his dad for many years.
Gene married Shirley November 25, 1978, and over the years along with their sons built and grew Muddy View Ranch Ltd.
Gene loved and played ball in his high school years and got into bronc riding and breaking wild horses. His favorite and one-man horse was named Brooks. Gene loved watching his son’s bull riding at various arenas and rodeos. Once his grandchildren and nieces and nephews started sports, he would be in the stands cheering them on.
Gene was a counsellor and served on the Hart Butte RM 11 for 27 years, where he enjoyed the meetings and lifelong friendships.
We love you forever and will miss you, Papa. Your expressions like “jiminy crickets” or sighing and saying “HoHoHo” will remain in our hearts.
Our family would also like to thank all the staff at the Bengough Health Center for all the love and support over the last six years. You truly are all special.
At the request of family there will be a private celebration at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Dementia/Alzheimer's or Humane society.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for Gene’s family may be shared at www.rossfuneralservice.com. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
