

Lena Aust of Big Beaver, SK, passed away December 22, 2013 at age 96. Helena (Lena) Mary Ellis was born October 10, 1917 on the family farm, Bengough, SK. She attended Valley Grove School then worked part time in the J. Eskerstrand Store in Bengough. Roy and Lena were married in June, 1942 and came to the Big Beaver that same year. They worked for Mr. R.F. Burgess and lived on the Wright Ranch. In July of 1946, they bought the Dray Line and Livery Stable and moved it to Big Beaver. In 1948 they bought the Service Station and restaurant, which they operated until 1959. They sold the service station and bought the stores, which had one general store including groceries, clothing and hardware – Aust General Store. In 1975, they sold the store to son, Ronnie. Lena enjoyed her family, home, yard and garden.
Predeceased by parents William Jr. and Nellie Ellis, husband Roy (1991), daughter-in-law Gail, five brothers: Earl, Lawrence, Clayton, Gordon and Elmer and one sister Lulu Pond, Lena is survived by son Ronnie and daughter Linda (Wayne) Fafard; grandchildren: Chad (Shelly) Aust, Nicole (Kim), Carmen (Mark) Simmons, Tara Yakamovich, and Drew (Kelly) Fafard; grandkids Tad, Haley, Courtney, Nicholas, Hannah, Katelyn, Madison and Marina.
Celebration of Lena’s Life will be held at a later date in Big Beaver. Interment will take place in the Big Beaver Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.rossfuneralservice.com.
