

Herman was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 2, 1915. He moved to the family farm near Mazenod, Saskatchewan in 1919, where he grew up and attended school in Ettington until 1931 when he quit and went to work on the family farm. In 1933 he left the farm and went to Brockville, Ontario where he worked as an attendant in a physiciatric hospital. In 1937 he returned to the farm to work. In 1940 he joined the army reserves, then again returned home to the farm where he did custom threshing as well as his own farming. In 1944 he met Beryl Speed and in 1946 they married. They then moved to the family farm where they raised their six children. During Herman’s years on the farm he was a member of the Mazenod Co-op where he served as a board member faithfully for many years. He also served as a board member of the Glad Tidings Bible Camp for many years. He was also a provincial pest control officer focusing on the controlling of coyotes in the late 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s. Herman was an avid hunter, and really enjoyed hunting with his sons. His hobbies included collecting gun cartridges of all types and dynamite blasting throughout the province. He also enjoyed being a member of the Congress Baptist Church for 52 years as well as serving as a Deacon. Herman and Beryl lived and farmed on the family farm until 1982 when they retired from farming and moved to Assiniboia where they have since resided. Herman, due to illness, was unable to live at home and moved to the Ross Payant Nursing Home in 2007, where he resided until his death.
Herman was predeceased by his parents William and Matilda Meginbir, his sisters Lydia Pearce, and Elsie Hanley; brothers Ed, Arthur and Albert Meginbir; brothers-in- law Jack Pearce, Lawrence Hanley, and Stan Thiele; sisters in-law Myrtle and Muriel Meginbir, his son Dwight Meginbir and great-granddaughter Sara Meginbir. Herman leaves to mourn his loving wife of 62 years Beryl, son Ron, daughter-in-law Anne Meginbir, daughter Debbie Harley (Daryl), son Blaine Meginbir (Sandra), son Randy Meginbir (Carollyn), daughter Rhonda Pickens (Kelly); his grandchildren Jordan Meginbir, Stephen Meginbir, Rebecca Meginbir (Jeff Henning), Dustin Munce, Amber Munce, Bryn Harley, Rachelle Meginbir, Nathan Meginbir, Jason Meginbir, Rylan Meginbir, Kyle Meginbir, Tristan Pickens, Ryder Pickens (Merissa Mattson), Kyla Pickens (Brett Marit), Randi Pickens, Marissa Pickens, Jason Pickens, Kyla-Marie Pickens; his great-grandchildren Samantha and Ethan Meginbir and Aiden Henning and one sister-in-law Audrey Thiele.
The Funeral Service for Herman was held at the Dominion Road Baptist Church on December 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Dan Brazeau officiated. Music was congregational songs, “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”, “Beyond the Sunset”; “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” accompanied by pianist Shirley Willner and organist Dale Carnegie. A duet of “Mansion over the Hilltop” was sung by Pastor Dan and Iona Brazeau. Tribute was given by his son Randy and son-in-law Kelly. The Active Pallbearers were his grandsons; Jordan Meginbir, Stephen Meginbir, Nathan Meginbir, Jason Meginbir, Tristan Pickens, Ryder Pickens, Jason Pickens, Dustin Munce, Bryn Harley, Kyle Meginibr, Rylan Meginbir. The Honorary Pallbearers were Roy Tollefson, Leonard Johnson, Larry Dahlman, Bill Cowan Jr., and Frank Pickens. The ushers were Jim Mytroen and Gerard Bergeron. Attending the register were Patsy Anderson and Tammy Waiting, with the memorial donations going to the Ross Payant Nursing Home. A power point presentation of Herman’s life was done by Fraser Gibson. Interment took place in Mount Hope Cemetery Assiniboia, Sk. with lunch and fellowship following in the Dominion Road Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Arrangements were entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, Sk.
