In loving memory of the late Joyce Knox of Assiniboia who passed away September 9, 2016, a Service of Remembrance was held at the St. George’s R.C. Parish Hall on Friday, September 16, 2016 officiated by Rev. Marilyn Leuty, Assiniboia United Church. Joyce’s nephew David Young was urn bearer. Nieces and nephews Lynn (Broeder) Banford, Jim Banford, Michael Broeder and Teresa Broeder gave the Tributes, remembering the wonderful times they spent with Joyce over the years, the wise and timely advice she provided, and the kind and generous things she did for them. Her sense of humour and dry wit were appreciated along with her fierce competition in games of chinese checkers, pinochle and scrabble. There were lots of laughs and giggles. Joyce was born April 27, 1931 on the family farm at Stonehenge. She attended Willow Beach School and Assiniboia High School followed by a year of sub teaching in the Mitchelton area. She then spent a year at Moose Jaw Normal School before accepting a teaching position in Limerick. It was there that she met her late husband Murray and they were married October 25, 1952 and moved onto the MacAulay farm. The following year Joyce contracted polio and was no longer able to teach but lived a good and happy life with Murray until his passing in 1970. At that time she sold the farm and moved the house to Assiniboia. With family and other help provided, Joyce lived in her own home until 2007 when she moved into Long Term Care. A love of gardening kept Joyce busy during the summer months tending her flowers. She loved music and was an avid reader, continuing to educate herself on various subjects through her life time. She also learned to speak and write Spanish and completed a psychology course. A good knitter, she kept us supplied with afghans and sweaters. Joyce was predeceased by her parents George and Elsie Young, husband Murray, sister Lila Johnson, brother-in-law Mervyn Wittig, brother-in-law Earl Johnson and great niece Kira Broeder. She is survived by brothers George and Jack (Mary) Young, sisters Muriel Wittig, and Margaret (Gordon) Broeder, and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Donations in Memory of Joyce are gratefully accepted for the Assiniboia Auxiliary for Long Term Care Homes. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
