It is with profound sadness but with gratitude for a life well lived, that the family of Ken Lusk, announces his passing on February 14, 2018 at Assiniboia Union Hospital. He was surrounded by his wife Vivian and family in his final days. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Eleanor & Edward Lusk; brothers Leonard (Florence) and Ronald; and mother and father-in-law, Ingvald & Isabelle Haugen. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Vivian; children: Valerie Lusk (Rick Barteski), Joan (Larry) Eldstrom, Gary, Robert (Steffanie) Lusk, and Katherine Lusk (Robert Carey); 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Helen Lusk, and Vivian’s siblings, Webster & Loretta Haugen and Winnifred & Robert Veitenheimer and numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was born in Bigger, Saskatchewan on October 9, 1927 and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1949, pursuing a career in education. He started his career as a teacher, and then went on to become a principal, educational psychologist and finally Director of Education for the then Swift Current School Division before returning to his roots and instructing future teachers as a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Regina. Ken met Vivian while they were both teaching at Smiley in 1950 and they married in 1952. They lived in numerous communities while raising their five children. Ken and Vivian’s passion was the family cabin at Lac Pelletier. Ken loved to garden and was constantly at odds with the rabbits and deer who ate his lettuce. The fence around the garden was higher every year! Dad passed on his love of fishing to his family and expressed it with pictures of the grandchildren’s “first catch”, which were proudly displayed on the cabin’s “Wall of Honor”. Ken and Vivian hosted many family gatherings at the lake. Visiting, swimming, boating, fishing and evenings around the campfire roasting marshmallows were part of the family summers growing up. ‘Thank you Grandpa for the memories’. As per Dad’s request there will be no funeral. Interment to take place at a later date. Flowers most gratefully declined, donations may be made to charity of donor’s choice.
