It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lavinia Anne Dionne (Chorney), who passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, at the age of 75 years, in Regina, Saskatchewan, with her family by her side.
Lavinia was born on July 26, 1951, in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. She later moved to Glentworth, Saskatchewan, where she helped her mom and dad at the Royal Hotel. It was there that she met the love of her life, Roger Dionne, who was the manager of the Co-op in Glentworth. Roger and Lavinia were married in Glentworth on April 22, 1971.
After they were married, Roger and Lavinia moved to Manitoba before eventually returning to Southern Saskatchewan, where they raised their three children: Giselle (Todd) Wilson, Sherri Schewe, and Jeff Dionne.
Lavinia was blessed with six grandchildren: Kyle (Tanielle) Wilson, Karlie (Kyle) Wilson, Kyan (Kylie) Dionne, Owen Dionne, Ryder Schewe, and Ella Dionne, and two great-grandchildren, Rhett and Alden Wilson. Her love extended far beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Lavinia had a special love for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and her Rider pride could be seen and heard no matter where she was. She was rarely seen without some sort of Rider gear and could always be heard cheering on game day, often teasing Roger with her favourite question: “Who’s the best in the CFL?”
Lavinia's unwavering faith and devotion carried her through the many challenges she faced over the last few years. Her strength, love, and faith were an inspiration to those who knew her.
While our hearts are heavy with her loss, we find comfort in knowing that Lavinia is now at peace. And we can picture her exactly where she would want to be — sitting on a beach in the sunshine, with a Kahlúa and cream in her hand.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
Predeceased by her father Michael Chorney, Lavinia is survived by her husband of 54 years, Roger, three children Giselle (Todd) Wilson and their children Kyle (Tanielle) – Rhett and Alden, Karlie (Kyle); Sherri Schewe and her son Ryder and Jeff and his children Kyan (Kylie), Owen and Ella, her mother Anne Chorney, and siblings Mickey, Katherine and Stanley.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 2:00 pm in St. Ignace Roman Catholic Church, Willow Bunch, SK.
In honour of Lavinia's memory, donations may be made to the Coronach Hospital Auxiliary.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for Lavinia’s family may be shared at www.rossfuneralservice.com. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
