Iliana (Lena ) Boghean Jonescu passed away May 27, 2026 at the age of 102. She was born on March 20, 1924, in Spring Valley, Sk and attended school at Kempville School. She was the oldest of 6 children and after finishing school, she worked at Sears in Regina. Lena married Steve Jonescu July 29, 1945 and they farmed in the Flintoft area for 15 years, then moved to Assiniboia where they farmed until Steve’s death in 1994.

Lena was very active with her music, playing in various bands for over 50 years and winning several awards for her fiddling. She was also a member of the famous Entertainers. She was proud to have been honoured as Assiniboia Volunteer of the Year twice and received an award for special services in her community from the Badlands Rec. Association Region Volunteer (Bengough). She was active in the Orthodox auxiliary and church council holding offices of president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Lena was a member of the curling club and the community choir. She also worked several years at Cee Dee’s. As a youth she was very athletic and later in life loved watching sports on tv, especially the Toronto Blue Jays.

Lena was predeceased by her husband Steve, her parents Mary (Banilevic) and Dan Boghean, brother Dan, sisters Kae Banda, Loretta Hnidy, and Netty Kessler. Lena is survived by her brother George and her children Ruth (Ramon) Oceguera, grandchildren Ruth Elena (Ken) Donahue; Ramon Jr. (Jennifer), great grandchildren Gavin and Jocelyn; Maricela (John) Shukie, great granddaughters Marisol, Sofia, Nadia; and granddaughter Diana (Lisa Nelson); Christine (Richard) Gaudry, grandchildren Crystal (Jim) Bratrud, great grandson Rory; Michael (Belinda) Gaudry, great grandchildren Zoe and Ethan; Andrea (Derek) Hallett and great grandchildren Henry and Benjamin; Delmar (Joy Thompson) Jonescu and grandson Andrew.

An Orthodox Funeral Service will be held at St. George's Roman Catholic Church, 325 6th Ave. East, Assiniboia, SK, on June 8, 2026, at 1:00 pm. Father Cosmin Vint officiating priest. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, followed by fellowship St. George's Parish Hall.
