It is with deep sorrow and much love, that we mourn the passing of Philomène Marie Brochu (née Bourassa), of Assiniboia, SK. on October 4th, 2025, at the age of 87 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, Jérémie; children: Pauline Crone (Gordon). Jo-Anne Bloom (Lynn), Diane Beaubien (Gerard), Denise Mlazgar (Alan), Alain Brochu (Betty), as well as 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; sister Cecile Delorme, brothers: Marius Bourassa (Elaine), Rene Bourassa, Michael Bourassa (Shelley), brothers-in-law: Lucien Cossette, Eldon Carlson, Doug Barker, Emile Brochu, Alphonse Brochu (Georgina), sisters-in-law: Darlene Brochu, Bertha Heintz, numerous nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents Ernest and Marie Bourassa; brother Francis; sisters: Dehlia Cossette, Martha Barker, Marie Carlson and infant sister MarieAnn, In-laws: Valere Brochu, Hannah Brochu, Frank Heintz, Bernadette and Loyal Ballard, Marie and Bill Quail, Joe Brochu.

Philomène was born in Souris Valley District, Radville, SK. on May 26th, 1938. After moving a few times, the family settled in Willow Bunch where she received her education and graduation. Her family then returned to Radville where she met her future husband Jérémie Brochu, while working as a laboratory technician. They were married on April 25th, 1959. For almost 20 years they lived on a farm south of Radville, SK. where they raised their five children. In 1978, they sold their farm and moved to Regina, SK. Her years in Regina were filled by Lay Ministry with her church, Pastoral Care at the local hospitals, making rosaries that she gave away, doing donations of her rare blood type (on demand), and continuing her passion of genealogy. She eventually gathered, after 30+ years, enough data on the family history to print an encyclopedia sized set of books that she had bound, and gifted to her children, and grandchildren. A highlight of her life happened in 1984 while living in Regina, when she was honored with the opportunity to serve communion at a mass with Pope John Paul II, in Winnipeg MB. to a congregation of over 250,000 attendees. After a serious incident with her health, they decided to move to Assiniboia, SK. in 2008, to be closer to some of her children. There she helped Jérémie out at his acreage, gardened, and was involved with the 55 Club senior center, enjoying companionship, winning at bingo, and playing other games.

Philomène, along with her husband Jérémie, were moved into Providence Place in Moose Jaw, SK where her dementia could be better managed. She was fortunate to be able to have the man she loved, with all her heart, at her side throughout the day for companionship and games of cribbage. She recently moved to the Ross Payant Nursing Home in Assiniboia for her final few months of life.

There is no doubt in our hearts that she has gone to see her Beloved Jesus and been welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven.

A Funeral Mass for Philomène will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 2:00 pm at St. George's Roman Catholic Church, 325 6th Avenue East, Assiniboia, SK S0H 0B0. Prayer Vigil will be held Friday, October 10, 2025 at 7:30 pm at St. George's Roman Catholic Church. Donations in memory of Philomène may be made to Operations Smile Canada and Masses.
