Rubena Topola

Predeceased by her husband Nick G. Topola December 8, 2003, parents Dan Lawrick and Maria Banilevic; brothers: William, George, John, Constantin (Gus), Joseph and Daniel; sisters Annie Welish, Helen Spanier, Dora Patrick, Margareta Szaloczi, Georgina Punga, Emily Marcenko; sons-in-law Edgar Boyle and Murray Sjogren.

Rubena is survived by loving daughters Eileen Boyle and Marilyn Sjogren; grandchildren: Bryce (Erin) Boyle, Darby (Kerry) Boyle, Ryley (Meahgan) Boyle, Matthew (Ashley) Sjogren, Melissa (Ryan) Bazar, Michelle (Matthew) Supria; great-grandchildren: Kinley and Olivia Boyle, Camden and Jacob Boyle, Daxton and Aauna Boyle, Alexander, Lincoln and Madyson Sjogren, Lillian and Johnathan Bazar, Matthius and Mateo Supria; and sister Lorraine Waslenko.

Rubena Topola (Lawrick) was born July 3, 1922 and raised on the Family Homestead, Elm Springs, Saskatchewan. She was the fifth child of 14; 6 brothers and 7 sisters of Dan and Marie Lawrick. She went to school to the age of 14 due to her mother passing, and had to help her father care for 7 younger siblings. Ruby met the love of her life (Nick Topola) while going to dances at Scout Lake. On July 12, 1942, Ruby married Nick G. Topola and made a home on a farm near Wood Mountain. They farmed for 25 years then moved to Assiniboia in 1966. Ruby enjoyed cooking at the Assiniboia Lodge Hotel, and Franklin Hotel. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She loved to sew for her children, grandchildren and anyone. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought new joy to her life. A joy that illuminated her face whenever she saw them. After Nick passed, Ruby moved to Preeceville to live with daughter Eileen until 2015 when they moved to Saskatoon. Daughters Eileen and Marilyn alternated taking care of Ruby.

Ruby has left behind wonderful memories and she loved her family dearly. It’s hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember. We will miss her more than words can express. We love you so much mom, grandma, GG. Be at peace.

Orthodox Funeral Service was held Friday, July 24, 2020 at 2:30 pm at Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK with officiating priest The Very Rev. Fr. Cosmin Vint. Interment at Ascension of Our Lord Orthodox Cemetery, Elm Springs, SK. Donations in memory of Ruby may be made to the The Kidney Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
