Terry Newell (nee Bolianatz), of Thomson Lake Regional Park, SK passed away on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023. Terry was born in Regina in 1955 and moved to the farm near Shaunavon from Rouleau at 6 weeks old with her parents and older siblings. She attended a one-room school house in Instow, even traveling on a horse and sleigh in the winter; then was bussed to Shaunavon in Grade 4. After graduating high school, she attended Nursing College at Medicine Hat. Terry spent most of her adult life in Alberta and especially enjoyed “changing it up” with the years working for the Calgary Flames from 1989-1996. The last part of her career in Alberta was spent working with her Indigenous friends of the Stoney Nation, including many years at Eden Valley as Health Director. It was there she adopted her son Dallas Dixon and his family. She would always say Eden Valley Reserve #216 will forever be in her heart. In 2010 Terry became an Advocate for Foothills Victim Services as Court Co-ordinator and was an active volunteer in the Gravelbourg area for Southwest Victim Services, SK. She was honoured to be one of the volunteers to receive the Premier’s Award for Excellence in Public Service for time spent in Laloche after the crisis in 2015. In 2014, Terry made a decision to slow down and start “smelling the roses”. She moved to lovely Thomson Lake, SK and purchased a cottage which has been home since then. Terry was working with the wonderful staff at Ross Funeral Service, a job she “truly enjoyed and with people” she “enjoyed even more” until her health made it no longer possible. “It’s been a good life”.
Predeceased by mother Sheila (nee Paxton) and father Jack Bolianatz, several cousins, aunts, uncles and both sets of grandparents, Terry is survived by daughters: Shalena and Cassie; sons: Tyson (Alice), Chance and adopted son Dallas Dixon; grandchildren: Phoenix, Rayne, Sky, Summer, Autumn, River, Meadow, Phall; brothers Ray (Lise) of Stavanger, Norway and Al (Shelly) Bolianatz of Saskatoon, SK; sister Marilyn (Len) Heckbert of Medicine Hat, AB; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their children, as well as Aunt Kathy. Special thank you to Diane Krahn, Rus Lovo, Debbie Thompson, Rheanne and Kim Piche, Scott and Monica Hughes, Dan Jalbert, Dr. Pillay and the Homecare and Palliative Care staff for everything they did to help these last few years.
A Celebration of Terry’s life will be held at later date. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for the Newell family may be shared at www.rossfuneralservice.com. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK 306-642-3373.
