

Tony Kress of Mankota, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully with his family at his side Monday, October 9, 2017 at the age of 91 years. He was born November 1, 1925 at his parents’ home in the Barr district of RM-46. As a child he attended Barr School and helped on the farm with his brothers and sister. He married Rose Glas on October 22, 1951. Together they built their farm six miles west of Mankota and raised three children. Tony was an active member of the Billimun Catholic Church and the community. He had a generous heart and was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He participated in square dancing and loved to go camping with his family. Over the years he travelled to many places including BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Hawaii, Mexico, Disneyland and many parts of the U.S. His favorite place was working on the farm and raising cattle. In 1984 he semi-retired from farming and built a home in Mankota, which once was the property of his parents. In December of 1985, Tony and Rose moved to their new home. Tony continued to be involved in farming with his son and he would often be seen tinkering in the garage, working in the field or hunting gophers in his pasture. He loved to collect the empty shell cases to show his grandchildren. Tony enjoyed many hobbies with friends including bowling and golfing. He was the weather forecaster for the RM-45 for 12 years, reporting the weekly forecast and crop information for the area to the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation. He was an active member of the Mankota Town Council where he served for nine years. Tony loved his family dearly which included seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Anton and Katherina Kress, and brothers Edward and Martin Kress. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Rose; three children: Jacqueline (Russell) Robertson, Merles (Joanne) Kress, and Brenda Lee (Stuart) Poncsak; seven grandchildren: Shannon (Steaphan) Dougall, Andrea (Gaston) Sirois; Dalton, Bri-Andy and Asha Lee Kress; Braedyn and Arianna Poncsak; four great-grandchildren: Lucas and Brinley Dougall and Beau and Brielle Sirois; sister Josephine (Michael) Wingerter and brother Peter (Florence) Kress as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayer Service was held Monday, October 16, 2017 at 7:00 pm and Funeral Mass celebrated Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 11:00 am, both services held at St. Albert's Roman Catholic Church, Mankota, SK. Donations in Memory of Tony may be made to the Mankota & District Health Auxiliary. Arrangements under the direction of Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
