

Tony Schmidt passed away December 21, 2021 at the age of 98 in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. He was born July 21, 1923 in the Viceroy area. Tony was the oldest child of five born to Mary Fleischhaker and Nick Schmidt. He received his education at Sussex school attending until grade 8 when he had to quit school to work the family farm due to his father‘s illness. Tony and Marjorie Klein were married June 18, 1945. They farmed in the Viceroy area until they retired to Assiniboia in 2000. They spent 36 winters travelling to Mexico and the southern states. Marj passed in 2004 and Tony continued to travel to Yuma until 2015. They would go camping and fishing in northern Saskatchewan for two weeks in the summer. Tony coached and played for the Viceroy senior hockey team. He also coached and played for the Viceroy baseball team for 25 years and curled for many years. Tony served on the Viceroy Sask. Wheat Board, Viceroy Credit Union Board, and Viceroy Community Center Board. Tony was predeceased by his wife Marjorie in 2004, his parents Nick and Mary, his sisters Mary (Del Cushing) and Rose (Andy Volsky), brothers-in-law Russ Pomazon, Lloyd Klein (Anna) and Ken Klein, sisters-in-law Edna (Keith Gillies), Hazel (Otto Zopf) and Joyce (Ed Tendler). Left to cherish Tony’s memory is his son Jerry (Ellen) of Thomson Lake; granddaughters, Kari (Blair Alm) of Viceroy, Nicki (Scott Hennessey) of Calgary, Cristel (Steve Waldbauer) of Emerald Park and Janelle (Trevor Nichols) of Canmore; great-grandchildren Brittany (Eric Lemieux), Peyton, Katie, Sarah, Rylan, Hudson, Adalyn; great-great-grandchildren Sonora and Jasper, his sister Betty Pomazon, his brother Herb (Evelyn) Schmidt, sister-in-law Irene Klein numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK. Father Dennis Remot presiding. Following the service, everyone is invited to remain for fellowship and lunch . Donations in Memory of Tony may be made to the South Country Health Care Foundation for the Assiniboia Union Hospital.
