William George Hanstock

William (Bill) George Hanstock, age 76, passed away June 4, 2026 at Assiniboia Union Hospital.

Bill, son of Margaret (Brown) and George Hanstock, born October 18, 1949, grew up on the family farm near Assiniboia. He attended the one-room schoolhouse at Hawley, graduated high school in Assiniboia, and studied mechanics at Moose Jaw’s Saskatchewan Technical Institute. He married Donna Koch, and they had two sons, Michael and Murray, before they divorced. Bill later married Shirley (nee Flaherty), and they had two children, Jason and Nicole. Bill and Shirley farmed near Assiniboia and were married for 31 years before she passed away in 2006. Bill remained on the farm until he moved into West Side Court in 2023. Bill enjoyed visiting with loved ones, taking care of cows, baling hay, watching curling and working in the shop. He will be missed by his family and friends that includes eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Bill is predeceased by his wife, Shirley (nee Flaherty); his parents, Margaret and George Hanstock; his in-laws, Allan Bishop, Murray Martin, Pat Flaherty and Wayne Flaherty; and his parents-in-law, Clarence and Nora Flaherty.

Bill is survived by his children: Michael (Jolene), Murray, Jason (Teri), and Nicole; his grandchildren: Makenna, Emma, Riley, Amelia, Zachary, Ian and Elise; his great-grandchildren: Huxley and Grayson; his siblings: Betty Martin, Faye Popescu, Beverly Naylor and Doug Hanstock; his in-laws: Jack (Marion) Flaherty, Gloria Flaherty and Brenda Flaherty; his special friend Olive Rust; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Emmanuel Prairie Gardens, Congress, SK, with Pastor Sarah Mowat officiating.
