William Howes Nelson

William Howes Nelson in his 86th year, in the quiet hours of the morning of 6 March 2016 surrounded by his children and family passed from this life into eternity with loved ones who have gone before. Bill was born in Bengough Union Hospital on December 31, 1930 to William F. and Ellen (Nellie) (nee McClinton). Bill is survived by four children: David (Sandra) of Middleton, Nova Scotia; Carol of Steller, Alberta; Bill (Christine) of St Denis, Saskatchewan; Kevin of Coronach, Saskatchewan; grand-daughter Amy (Graeme), Halifax, Nova Scotia, one sister Margaret (nee Rolke) Bylund-Mairs, Stratford, Ontario as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Washington state, USA and Canada. Predeceased by his parents, his wife Peggy and son Gregory, brother Arthur, sister-in-law Jean, brother Glen, sister-in-law Bernice, brothers-in-law Louie Rolke, Rev D.L. Bylund and Robert Mairs. Bill lived in the area around Buffalo Gap all of his life. He farmed and did some work in the oilfields of southern Alberta. His many talents included drawing, mechanical work, gardening and in later years rock gardens and rose beds all for his loving wife Peggy. In earlier times, Bill and his mother planted most of the trees around the farm. Bill’s favorite things in life always centered around his family. He also had an enduring love for animals, especially horses and dogs. He enjoyed travelling in Western Canada and any occasion he got to travel further afield to visit relatives in maritime Canada, where his wife was born and western US, home to his brothers Arthur and Glen and their families. After Bill finally retired to live in Coronach Health Centre, he thought himself extremely fortunate to be provided such wonderful care by outstanding staff, all the while remaining close to his “hills of home”. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral Service was held 9 March 2016 at 10:00 am in the Knox United Church in Bengough, Saskatchewan. Mr. Hans Zoller presided. Pallbearers were: Otto Korbo, Brian Rolke, David Nelson, Carol Nelson, Bill Nelson, and Kevin Nelson. Interment followed at the Bengough Cemetery with Reverend Dawn Rolke officiating. A reception followed in the United Church fellowship hall. Donations may be made to the Coronach Health Centre Foundation for the Palliative Care Facility.
