Charles Karl Hartman (C.K.) was born December 21, 1948 in San Gabriel, CA and entered into rest February 17, 2017 at his home in Atascadero. Charlie was predeceased by his parents Arlene Hartman in March 1991 and Karl Hartman in August 1995. Surviving loved ones include daughter Chanell K. Hartman of Tahoma, CA; daughter Crystal K. Knopp and grandson Curtis Knopp of Templeton; brother Jerry Hartman of Portland, OR; sister Gail Teeple (Dick Willis) of Atascadero; sister Vickie Sabin (Kenny) of King City; nephew Casey Sabin (Krista) and great neices Elsa and Miranda of Paso Robles; neice Colleen Lock (Dan) and great nephew Fenton of Duckwater, NV. Charlie moved to Atascadero in 1959 and attended Santa Rosa Elementary School, Lewis Avenue and graduated in 1967 from Atascadero High School. After High School he served six years in the National Guard, stationed at Camp San Luis Obispo. He went on to learn and flourished with the family concrete construction business Chas. Hartman & Son. His grandfather and father had started the business in 1936 in Los Angeles County. Charlie had only two daughters, as a result, the business became Hartman Concrete in the 1980's. You would also find Charlie working many of the Diablo Canyon power plant outages and some oil field work. Charlie was a member of the Cement Masons Local 600 of Los Osos for 20 years. Charlie is a charter member of the Atascadero Trail Riders (ATR) which started in 1974. He rode every year up until 3 years ago. He belongs to the Atascadero VFW Post 2814. Some of his favorite pastimes were teaching his daughters to ride horses, mastering the BBQ, rooting on the Raiders football team, camping and reading. He spent countless hours fishing at Santa Margarita Lake and hunting in and outside of the state. He has collected countless horns from bucks and his freezer was always full of wild boar and venison. Naturally, with concrete work, he was always current on happenings with the weather. If you missed it on the TV, you could always rely on him for a full report of the forecast and he always knew what his rain gauge was registering at. The family is hosting a celebration of life on Sunday, February 26th at 2:00 p.m. at the Atascadero VFW Post 2814 located at 9555 Morro Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the ATR Joe Perry Crisis Fund through the Atascadero Trail Riders. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 1538, Atascadero, CA 93423.
