Jean was born August 17, 1926 in Manistique, Michigan to Fred and Louella Nelson. She was raised in Pismo Beach and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School on D Day in 1944.
On September 13, 1947 she married Donald Thompson. Together they had three children, William, Milton, and Janet. As time passed the family continued to grow with five grandchildren, Scott, Shannon, Brian, Katie, and Kevin.
Jean returned to the workforce "to help out the family budget for a while" in 1961. After 20 years of working for San Luis Obispo County, she retired in 1981 as a Superior Court Clerk.
Retirement led to cruises and travel all over the United States. Many fishing trips with family and friends. There was also time for golf. Jean was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Chalk Mountain Ladies Golf Group.
She is survived by her son, Milton (Shelly) of Atascadero and daughter, Janet of Madera; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
