Matt was born December 17, 1986 in San Luis Obispo to Jim and Alison Hansen. He was the youngest of three children. He lived most of his life in Atascadero. He graduated from Atascadero High School in 2005. Matt loved culinary science, and was a lead cook at the time of his passing.
Matt will be remembered for his creativity, passion, and intelligence. He was self-taught, and could converse on almost any subject. Matt had the ability to see the best in others, and he forgave easily. He is also remembered for his smile, contagious laugh, and his amazing sense of humor. Matt was forever patient, quietly unassuming, and unwaveringly hopeful.
Matt enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He looked forward to new experiences, whether it was trying a recipe for the first time, or visiting a new place. He enjoyed hiking, gaming, bluegrass, concerts, and a wide variety of other subjects. Matt was never without a topic to research. Matt was also an amateur weapons craftsman, and enjoyed learning about his Scandinavian heritage.
Matthew is survived by his mother Alison Hansen, his sister Sarah (Brandon) Bournonville, his brother Ryan (Jen) Hansen, nephews Connor, Brady, Emerson, nieces Kayla and Chloe, as well as his grandmother Alice Harvey. Many extended family and friends further survive him. Matt is preceded in death by his father Jim Hansen, grandfathers Bobby Rives and Stuart Harvey, and grandparents Ken and Kathy Hansen.
A celebration of Matthew's life will be held on July 22nd, at 4:00 p.m. on 7680 Tassajara Creek Road in Santa Margarita.
