Ms. Pettit was born May 28, 1953 in Limestone County, Alabama to Willie James King and Ruby Mae Buchanan King.
Survivors include one daughter, Jeanie Thompson; one brother, Jerry King and wife Jan; one sister, Judie Clark; three grandchildren, Jeanie Ashley Greene, Nicholas Allan Thompson, and Jacob Paul Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Friendship North in Athens.
