

Betty Sue Shoemaker Hardy, 80, left her earthly home to be with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from Senior Health & Rehab in Athens, Alabama following a short cancer illness. Betty was born on November 26, 1936 to John & Myrtle Shoemaker in Holly Pond, Alabama.
Betty was known to many for her love of people and animals and the kindness that she showed to everyone. She taught elementary school for 27 years in Madison County, Alabama. After her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren who were the love of her life. She also worked at the East Limestone convenience store, MagneTek, and as a greeter at the University Drive, Huntsville, AL Wal-Mart. She attended Fairview Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir.
Betty is survived by daughters, Mary Baugher (Timmy) of Athens, AL , Rebecca Black (Doug) of Pensacola, FL, and Cindy Cantrell of Harvest, AL, grandchildren, Nicholaus Hancock, Chandler Hancock, and Cheyenne Cantrell and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to niece, Paula Miller, who helped to care for her in her last days and to special friends Alice, Gladys, Francis, Kaye, and Danny. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Buford Hardy and a granddaughter, Courtney Elizabeth Craig, both of Athens, AL.
Her funeral will be held at McConnell Funeral Home on Hwy. 31 in Athens, AL on Wednesday December 7, 2016 at 1 P.M. with George Whitten, Pastor of Fairview Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 11 to 12:45 P.M. preceding the funeral. Burial will be at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
