Carl Wayne Barnett, age 73, of Rogersville, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on December 11, 2025. Born on May 7, 1952, in Athens, Alabama, Carl grew up in Athens and graduated from Elkmont High School in 1970 before later moving to Rogersville.
Carl was a devoted husband to Alexandra Williams Barnett for 51 wonderful years, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He worked hard to provide for his family, retiring from Delphi after a long and dedicated career. He also proudly served his country as a medic in the National Guard.
Family was the center of Carl’s world. He cherished time spent with his loved ones, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas, which were his favorite holidays. He loved watching his granddaughters play softball and was an avid Alabama football fan. Carl also had a deep love for country music and enjoyed playing the guitar and making music with his family. In addition, he found joy in volunteering as a coach with the Elkmont High School football team. Carl was a vibrant man—kind, loving, and always ready to share a laugh or reminisce about stories from the past. His warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew him.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Alexandra Williams Barnett; his son, Benjamin (Benji) Barnett and wife (and favorite daughter-in-law) Shannon; granddaughters Avery and Grayson Barnett; siblings Billy Barnett (Mary, deceased) and Linda Scott (John); brother-in-law Brion Williams (Sandra); nieces Ginger McMeans (Sam), Tracie Runions (Chris), Terri Scrimsher (Matt), Tiffany Bumpus; nephew Jeremy Williams (Amberly); and several great-nieces and great-nephews: Will Thomas, Eli McMeans, Shelbie Runions, Chandler Johnson, Aiden Dobbs, Sonny Williams, and Maddi Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Emma Lee Barnett; in-laws Lowell and Cassie Williams; brothers Carson Barnett and Royce Barnett (Cartina, deceased); nephew Brian Patrick (Becky); and sister-in-law Deborah Bumpus.
