
The funeral for Charles L. Brewer, 87, of Prospect, Tenn., will be at 7 tonight at McConnell Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. Thursday at Braun Family Funeral Home in Columbia, Ill., with Dr. D. Juaken Dumas, Dr. Ronald J. Portell and David Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Dupo, Ill.
Visitation will be from 6-7 tonight and will continue until 9 p.m. after the 7 p.m. service. There will be another visitation from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Braun Family Funeral Home in Columbia, Ill.
Mr. Brewer passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at NHC Care Facility in Pulaski, Tenn.
Charles Brewer was born May 7, 1924, to Lucian and Irma Brewer in Modoc, Ill. He was a retired maintenance man for the Village of Cahokia, Ill. He ran a lawnmower and small engine repair shop. He was a deacon with First Baptist Church of Cahokia, moved to Prospect, Tenn. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church of Athens. He also served as a volunteer fireman for 25 years.
Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Brewer and Sylvan Brewer; two sisters, Goldie Brewer and Fern Loeshe; and one son, Scott Alan Brewer.
Mr. Brewer is survived by his lovely wife of 67 years, Wilma Brewer of Prospect; one son, Gary L. Brewer Sr. and wife Marsha of Millstadt, Ill.; one daughter, Connie S. Portell and husband Ron of Prospect; three brothers, Calvin Brewer of Cahokia, Marshall Brewer of Ellis Grove, Ill., Adrian Brewer of Saint Clair, Mo.; three sisters, Rose Eggemeyer and Rita Lawrence, both of Ellis Grove, and Violet Capps of Millstadt; three grandchildren, Angie Paule, Jennifer Hallmark and Gary L. Brewer Jr.; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
