On January 11, 2023, our beloved mother and family matriarch, Jane Daly Powers of Athens, Alabama passed away at the age of 87. She is survived by one daughter, Deborah Cates (Rickey). Sallisaw, OK; three sons, Larry Powers (Mary Jane), Decatur, AL; Jeff Powers (Mia), Athens, AL; and Mike Powers (Mary Beth), Hazel Green, AL; She was blessed with 8 grandchildren and thus became known as Granny (Jane). Grandchildren are David Powers (Clare), Wilmington, NC, Jonathan Powers, Madison, AL, Will Davis (Tiffany), Arlington, TX, Julee Powers Gallardo (Alfonso), Madison, AL, Sarah Atnip (Josh), Hazel Green, AL, Lauren Pack (Hunter), Athens, AL, Brandon Powers (Erin), Meridianville, AL, and Natalie Powers, Birmingham, AL; Even in later years, she deeply loved playing with her 8 great grandchildren, Spencer, Mac & Teddy Powers, Connor & Nora Belle Davis, Marlee Gallardo, Oliver Atnip and Beau Pack; She is also survived by three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Lee Powers Jr; her parents; William Noble Daly & Lou Ella Daly; one grandson; Joseph Lee Powers; 4 Sisters and 5 Brothers.
Jane was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Athens where she truly considered her Sunday school class as family members. She was an exceptional cook and baker and always prepared for unexpected guest. It was once said of her that if they were invited to eat at Granny’s table, they did not want to miss out! While love for all her children was always first, in spare time she was an immaculate quilter and enjoyed detailed cross stitchery where much of her beautiful artistry work was displayed throughout her home.
A visitation for Jane will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Joe Teal officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
