IN THE CARE OF
McConnell Funeral Home
Kenneth Donald Morrow, age 81, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
Ken grew up from humble beginnings in Cordova, AL. Always an A-student and a talented athlete in both basketball and baseball. He graduated from Dora High School in Dora, AL in 1961. After a short time at the local community college, he decided to get out and see the world. He thought he would join the Navy! Well, their recruiting office was closed so he walked next door and history was made by joining the U.S. Air Force.
Ken had a 31-year career in the U.S. Air Force, during that time he completed his Associates and Bachelors degrees. He became an Air Traffic Controller, served in the Vietnam War, became a Professional Military Instructor, served in the most senior role as a non-commissioned officer, and ended his career as the Commandant of the NCO Academy at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM. He rose to the highest enlisted rank Chief Master Sergeant and was highly decorated. In addition, he continued athletically enjoying golf and softball into retirement, even winning multiple regional softball championships and numerous national softball championships with rings to prove it!
During this career, he provided for his loving, tight-bonded family. None of this could have happened without the support, love and strength from the love of his life, Bonnie Kahler Morrow. They met traveling on a Grey Hound bus through Alabama, a young handsome man in uniform and a strikingly beautiful high school senior. His line: leaning over the seat behind her asking her if she had the time. When telling the story he always swore the watch on his wrist wasn’t working!
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Bonnie; his daughter, Melissa Morrow DeVore (Eddie), who was a Daddy’s girl with his personality and drive and her Mom’s looks; his son, Steven Donald Morrow (Dawnell) who has his Dad’s good looks and his Mom’s caring and devoted personality; 2 precocious grandsons who loved spending vacations with their grandparents stirring up mischief, Jake Morrow (Sarah) and Jeff Smith; a granddaughter, Ericka “Nikki” Smith who hung the moon and was always seen by his side growing up; 4 great-grandchildren that he doted on and would do anything for, Zoey, Emma, Brynlee, and Gunner; and his sister, Zelda Morrow Daniel (Francis) who has always ensured the family stays connected and would travel to wherever he was to celebrate his accomplishments .
He is preceded in death by his sister, Judy Morrow Kelley; his brother, Buck Morrow Jr.; and his parents, Buck and Ila Mae Morrow.
