Born in rural Covington County, Alabama, Betty was the daughter of the late Lonnie C. Vickery and Ida Lindsay Vickery and was the tenth of twelve children.
Betty was a nanny for over 20 years and loved babies and taking care of children. She adored her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was an artist who loved to paint oil and acrylic landscapes including snow scenes, beach scenes, flowers, and other items of nature. She was an excellent cook and her children, grandchildren, and numerous friends frequently enjoyed her food and hospitality. She loved music and going to live performances. She was considered the family photographer for decades and was always ready to share her pictures and a good story to go with it. She wrote many stories of her life and memories. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her children, Patsy Head Hinson (James Edward), William Carl Head (Kristen), and Kenneth Louis Head (Pam); two brothers, Glen Douglas Vickery and Lonnie Elwood Vickery; five grandchildren, Geoffrey Todd Hinson, Clayton Alan Hinson (Jeanie), Lauren Ansley Head, Shelby Jordan Head and Jonathan Louis Head; one great-grandchild, Haley June Hinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
