

Betty Frances Dunn was born on February 25, 1935 in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. Her parents were Ruth Nellie Overlees and Ray Peter Dunn. It was said that it snowed heavily on the day Betty was born. She grew up in Beatrice, Nebraska. She was the youngest child of three.
Betty married Jerry McColery on June 27, 1954. Together they had five children. This extended to four grandchildren and one young great grandchild. She enjoyed being a mother and loved being a grandmother. Betty moved several times with her family including locations in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and West Virginia before settling in Athens, Georgia in 1972.
Betty worked over 25 years for the Athens/Clarke County School System from 1973 to 1998. She loved education and pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education at the University of Georgia. Betty graduated in 1992. She was a hard worker her entire life who made many sacrifices to provide a better life for her family.
Betty had various hobbies and was creative and artistic during her life. She loved making a comfortable home for all family and friends. She lived her later retirement years at home surrounded by family and friends. Betty enjoyed the tranquility of sitting in her home with lots of light shining within. She had a friendly smile and greeted everyone with pleasure all of her life. Betty never met a stranger. She also had a special fondness for animals and loved to watch the deer, squirrels, and birds in her backyard.
Preceding her in passing were her parents; her former husband Jerry McColery, sister Helen Buchanan/husband Doug Buchanan, brother Lee Dunn/wife Velda Dunn, and mother-in-law Cleo Prather Lemon/husband Percy Lemon.
Surviving Betty are her children Gary McColery, Janet Kilpatrick/husband Mike Kilpatrick, Julie Morris, Anne Bennett and Patrick McColery and his partner Kelvin Davis. She also leaves behind her four grandchildren Taylor Bennett, Zoey Smith, Joshua Morris/wife Katie, Levi Morris, and great grandchild Kade Morris.
Bernstein's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be a Funeral Service scheduled on Saturday, December 9th in Athens, Georgia for immediate family.
At 11:30 am there will be a graveside service in Evergreen Cemetery for all family and friends. Immediately after will be a Celebration of Life ceremony for our mother at Janet and Mike Kilpatrick’s house at 425 Forest Heights Drive, Athens, Georgia 30606. All family and friends are welcome.
Betty leaves behind a legacy of love and will be missed by her family.
