Charles Todd McBride

Todd was born and grew up in Griffin, Ga. He had a lifelong love of learning and music, with a sharp mind and a strong circle of friends. After leaving Griffin he settled in Athens and began to pursue his dream of a career in music, playing guitar in The La Di Das, then forming one of the town’s legendary rock and roll bands, the Dashboard Saviors. He served as the band’s leader and chief songwriter as they achieved heights most musicians could only dream of—a record deal, tours across the U.S. and Europe, and positive write ups in prestigious publications like the Los Angeles Times and Rolling Stone magazine.

When he wasn’t playing music, he served as a friend, mentor and cheerleader to numerous aspiring musicians in Athens. He was never too busy to offer a kind word or guidance, and he always loved an underdog. He was a legend for his music, but remembered even more for his kindness and support for others. Todd and Shayne began dating in 2001 and married in 2007. They were a match made in Athens, sharing a love of music, words and wit. Together they loved and looked after each other and three ill behaved, but adorable dogs, Max, Howdy and Todd’s, “boon companion,” Chico.

A memorial service for Todd will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel, 3195 Atlanta Hwy., Athens, Ga. 30606.
