Henry and I have so many pleasant memories of both Charlie and Annie.  Our deepest empathy during this time of great sorrow and loss.  He was such a fixture at the Art Department that I know the halls are lonely for the handsome, long, tall, soft spoken Charlie.  To know him was to like and respect him, not only as an artist, but a very nice man. He is missed.

Very sorry to learn about Charlie's passing. I hope Annie is doing OK...I keep beautiful memories of that time while living in Athens... They became part of my life, as well as some good friends of them. Silvia//

Mrs. Morgan, I did not have the pleasure of meeting your husband, but he taught me nevertheless by posting the instructions for his bottlejack press on the web.  What a generous and inventive man he must have been. He wrote exceptionally clear instructions,   and they express a joyful enthusiasm for teaching and for encouraging people that yes, they can do this and then make art. I imagine him cheerfully  scrounging old cabinets and countertops for yet another press for his classes. May your fond memories ease the depth of your loss.

I am so sorry to learn of Charlie's passing, and hope Annie is okay. I studied with Charlie in Cortona in 1991 at Larry Thomas's suggestion, and have long wondered how they both were doing. I love the photograph, and am grateful to have had such teachers. It is good to know that Charlie's other, better students have carried his teaching and artistry on.

I remember Charlie with great fondness. He was one of the kindest senior faculty that I had the pleasure of working with. His inner light and peaceful calm was always reassuring to me when things got crazy in Lamar Dodd. I will miss seeing him as I was lucky to do after he retired. My deepest sympathies to his wonderful wife and family.

I valued Charley as both a friend and an artist. Although I saw only a few of his works over the years, mainly at a show at Dean Gillette's Atlanta gallery, I was
stunned by its wit, depth, and inventiveness. In an exhibition for one of Charley's shows, Jim Herbert wrote: "Charley's work is not for everyone, but for someone."
I took that to mean that it did not scream at you or put on airs, but quietly invited you into a world of absolute wonder! I will miss him on all levels!
