

Elizabeth was born on July 18, 1922 to Mrs. Geneva McLeroy Glover and Mr. William J. Rast of Athens. Elizabeth grew up in Athens, graduated from Athens High and married Julien Harris Stephenson, Sr. of Athens, on November 14, 1940. A year later, the U.S. entered World War II and Julien was commissioned in the Navy and served 3 years in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. Elizabeth, served for the Department of the Navy in Athens at a Flight School held on the UGA campus. After the War, Elizabeth gave birth to three sons, James Mell; Robert Manley; and Julien Harris, Jr. The moved to Valdosta and Orlando during their marriage and returned to Athens in 1977 where they lived the rest of their lives.
Julien predeceased Elizabeth in April 1985. Elizabeth is survived by her three sons, James Mell and his wife Beverly; Robert Manley and his wife Linda; and Julien Harris and his wife Lane as well as five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two brothers Robert E. and George M. Gibson also of Athens.
Elizabeth loved and was dedicated to her Church and always put others above herself. She served on the Alter Guild of Emanuel Episcopal Church of Athens and also as a dedicated volunteer in their thrift Shop for over 35 years. She served with the Saint Francis Guild that created of many beautiful gardens surrounding the church. She was a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and the friends of Oconee Hill Cemetery. Elizabeth lived a long, caring, and giving life until her passing on March 6, 2013. A memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church at 11:00 AM on March 15, 2012 by Fr. Robert Salamone. Interment services will be at Oconee Hill Cemetery during a private ceremony.
