Eloise was born as Florence Eloise Hooper on May 6, 1938 in Savannah, Georgia, to Charles Herty Hooper and Eloise Blitch Hooper. Following World War II, her family moved back to Athens, Georgia and that would remain Eloise’s hometown thru elementary school, high school, and college.
She attended David C. Barrow Elementary School, Athens High School, and the University of Georgia, where she was a Mathematics major. She joined the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority while in school there and became a great fan of Georgia Bulldog Athletics.
Eloise was an excellent swimmer in her younger days and eventually became certified to teach swimming and lifesaving. During summers in her college years, she taught those classes at a summer camp in Virginia.
After college, she began a career as a high school math teacher, starting in the Atlanta Public Schools system, and spent all her career as a teacher at various high schools in Georgia, primarily at Carrollton High School. She earned a master’s degree in mathematics at West Georgia College while there.
She lived in Florida for several years during retirement before moving back to Carrollton and later to Missouri. She passed away in Columbia, Missouri on July 20, 2022.
Eloise is survived by her husband, Malcolm Flanagan; her brother, Charles Herty Hooper, Jr.; two sons, Jim Perry and his wife Leann, and Dan Perry and his partner Marci; three grandchildren, Avery Perry, Carson Perry and Ryan Perry; and two nephews, Trey Hooper and Joe Hooper.
