Eugene Austin Townsend

Born November 22, 1928, he was the youngest sibling of the late George A. Townsend, Sr. and Madeline Roche Townsend.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Townsend Conner and her husband, John.

A resident of Oconee County, Gene, as he was called, retired from Westinghouse Corporation. He was a graduate of Athens High School in 1948, where he was a three sport letterman in football, basketball and track. He was also a Korean War Veteran, where he served time in Alaska.

Survivors included two brothers, George A. Townsend, Jr., and wife, Freda of Athens and William R. Townsend and wife, Sue of Watkinsville; nieces and nephews, Glenn A. Townsend and wife, Debra of Athens, Madeline Conner Krieger and husband, Bob of Statham, Todd C. Townsend and wife, Milicent of Hartwell, and Mark S. Townsend of Watkinsville; great nieces and nephews, Maygan and Travis Townsend of Athens, Maddi and Conner Krieger of Statham and Will Townsend and wife, Lauren of Hull.

A memorial service will be held at the Princeton United Methodist Church in Athens on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Princeton United Methodist Memorial Fund, St. Mary's Hospice House or Our Daily Bread of Athens.
