Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, T. Carroll DeVore, with whom she shared a life rich in love, commitment, and faith.
Her devotion to family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her children: Kathy and Bob Whitehead, Ted and Valerie DeVore, Cristie and Stephen Garrett, and Mike and Betty DeVore; her grandchildren: Jason and Elizabeth Whitehead, Monica and Travis Elrod, Kris Whitehead, Callie and Clay Sewell, Mandy DeVore, and Russ and Courtney DeVore; and her great-grandchildren: McKenzie and Sydney Elrod, Jack, Sadie, Spencer, and Caroline Whitehead, Trip and Livie Sewell, Preston and Lilly DeVore.
Helen gave generously of her time and heart to her community. She was actively involved with both Central and First Presbyterian Churches, the Athens General Hospital Auxiliary, and numerous PTA organizations. She found joy in the company of her bridge groups and poured creativity into china painting and delicate needlework that continues to be treasured.
Her life was a tapestry of compassion, elegance, and enduring faith. Helen’s warmth lit up every room, her wisdom steadied every storm, and her love shaped generations.
A private family service will be held in celebration of her extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Athens YMCA (915 Hawthorne Ave., Athens, GA 30606) or Eagle Ranch (5500 Union Church Road, Flowery Branch, GA 30542)—two places that reflect Helen’s lifelong commitment to faith, community, and helping others flourish.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
