
Jim was a native of Marblehead, OH. He earned a BSME from Case Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Toledo. He moved to Georgia in 1979 to serve as plant manager of the Johns Manville manufacturing plant in Winder, GA. He earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration in 1993 and taught Operations Management at UGA and GA College and State University. Jim was the owner of the Rolling Pin Kitchen Emporium in Athens, Georgia from 1996 until 2002. He served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and mentor for Education in Ministry at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, Ludwig and Eda Wahlers; a brother, John Wahlers; and son Erich Martin Wahlers. He is survived by his children, Kristopher (Kip) and Kate Wahlers; Jamie and Michael Teal; Timothy Wahlers and Danielle Gonzales; and Andrew Wahlers and Sayge Medlin; and seven adored grandchildren: Emily, Kelly, Kristen, Erin, Jack and Eliza Wahlers, and Isabella Gonzales. He is also survived by his siblings Gordon Wahlers and Roberta Culbertson and many nieces and nephews. He took great joy in his family, friends and a glass of red wine.
A service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. with a reception after. Interment will follow at Oconee Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Episcopal Building Fund, 498 Prince Ave., Athens GA 30601.
