Gwenyth, as she was known to her family and friends, was born August 17, 1927, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, daughter of the late Charles and Pansy (Curtis) Playle. She was predeceased in 2004 by her loving husband of 47 years, Peter Dyson, and her 2 brothers Jack and Colin Playle.
Gwenyth graduated from Guelph University, Valedictorian of her class, and later went on to earn a PhD in biochemistry from University of Georgia. She owned Dyson's Print Shop in downtown Athens for many years, taught on both high school and college levels, and ran a chemistry lab at UGA.
Gwenyth was the consummate student, forever seeking, reading and learning. Her wanderlust led her to a solo trip around the world at age 77, bringing her to England, France, Italy, India, Egypt, Thailand, Japan, and the Hawaiian Islands.
In addition to travel, she loved canoeing, skiing, and gardening.
She is survived by her 3 sons: John Dyson and his wife Dawn of Leavenworth, Kansas; James Dyson and his wife Marge of Athens, Georgia; and Paul Dyson of Honolulu, Hawaii. Grandchildren Jennifer Phillips and her husband Richard, James Dyson and his fiancé Faye Savec, Josh Dyson, Justin Dyson and his fiancé Victoria Wood, Piper Boswell and her husband Kevin, Ryan Dyson, Whitney Moody and her husband John, Hannah Seegmiller and her husband Brandon, Samuel Dyson, and Elizabeth Dyson—in addition to 12 great-grandchildren.
