John Edward Marsden

A native of Athens, GA, Mr. Marsden was the son of Jake and Gail Hutchins and the late Robert Edward Marsden. He worked in sales at LKQ, was a friend of Bill, and of the Episcopal faith.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife of 41 years, Debora McLeroy Marsden of Athens; son, Jared Marsden and wife, Kim of Athens; daughter, Dr. Kathryn Marsden and husband, Saphir Grici of Athens; brothers, Robert Marsden and wife, Joyce of Chattanooga, TN, Michael Marsden and wife, Clara of Carlsdad, CA, and Dr. Joshua Hutchins and wife, Tia of Daniel Island, SC; sisters, Terry Brasfield and husband, Dr. Barry Brasfield of Lebanon, TN and Laura Hutchins and husband, Rodney Dove of Bogart, GA; granddaughters, Samantha and Molly Marsden, and a number of nieces and nephews. His loving Catahoula leopard dog Jack will also miss his master.

Marsden was a 1972 graduate of Athens High School and a graduate of Athens Technical College with a degree in Drafting. He has worked in auto parts sales for over thirty-five years and has won numerous awards and prizes for being a top seller in his region. His honesty and reliability will be a great loss to those in Athens and beyond who have worked with him over the years.

He will be remembered for his willingness to help his friends in need, his loving heart, and his gentle sense of humor. Those who were lucky enough to taste his homemade barbeque will never forget his skills that earned him the nickname, the “Meat Master.”

Funeral services will be held 2PM Friday, October 24th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Thursday, October 23rd at Bernstein.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Children’s First, Inc. of 693 North Pope Street Athens, GA 30601.
