
A native of Bogart, GA, Lonnie was the son of the late James Walter and Mamie Crow Michael and was preceded in death by brothers, James W Michael and Johnnie D Michael; sisters, Geneva I Johnson, Mildred “Mickey” Gwirtz, and Mamie A Michael, nephews, John Robert Michael, Herbert D Johnson, and Walter Johnson, and niece, Marion E Johnson.
Over the years, Lonnie was a loyal member of Hebron Christian Church and Bogart Baptist Church. He served in the Merchant Marines before being old enough to enlist in the United States Navy during World War II. He then resided in Atlanta for many years, taking care of his mother while employed as a treasurer for the Teamsters Union AFL-CIO. He lived in Madison, GA, volunteering at the Madison Historical Society, but returned to his roots in Bogart, GA.
Lonnie enjoyed talking with friends, volunteering for the arts, docent work, doing for others, gardening (tomatoes were his specialty), reading, working crossword puzzles, and helping to decorate the Christmas tree. He will be long remembered for his baking, especially his pecan pies and cakes. He leaves a legacy of kindness, strength, and friendship to all who knew and loved him.
Lonnie is survived by nephews, Michael D Gwirtz, Michael Johnson, and Danny Johnson; niece, Patricia A Gwirtz, and many loving relatives and close friends.

Funeral services will be held 4PM Sunday, October 3rd at Bogart Baptist Church with Rev Danny Shoemake and Rev Tedd Tedder officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
